Onion harvest

We decided to check on our onions that were planted around four months ago in an Earthbox:

I'm not quite sure why the bulbs didn't form, but some common problems that might apply to our situation are overcrowding and too much nitrogen.  Next season I plan to space them out more before planting.

Harvested broccoli

One of the two broccoli flowers (planted ~2 months ago in early to mid November 2016) started turning a bit yellow so I harvested both of them.  Left the plants as is after cutting off the tops.

Plants are organic Belstar Broccoli.  Grown in greenhouse.

Taste: Raw, the broccoli was crisp without being too hard.  After stir fry cooking they were still firm but softened up a little.  Very good taste.

Verdict: unsure if worth the time and effort to grown on our own.  However, since it is a winter crop it's good utilization of otherwise unused planters.

6x Brussels sprouts in another earthbox.

6x kale in raised garden bed.
